Sinking Foundation

This is the most common structural problem we come across. It’s typically caused by poor soil conditions around a home or bad materials or techniques used when the home was being built. A home built in clay-rich soils will be surrounded by dirt that quickly absorbs all kinds of moisture. As the soil absorbs the moisture, it expands, creating voids underneath and around your home. Eventually, your home will begin to settle into these voids, which could cause many problems. It may look like one or more sides of your home are sinking into the earth! Also, you may notice that windows and doors aren’t opening or closing as they should, and you may have stair-like cracks on your exterior brickwork. Regardless of what caused the settlement, A&M SafeBasements can install piers from SafeBasements™ to take care of the problem. We offer both helical and push piers.

Helical Piers

The helical devices we use are made from durable, lasting materials. The pier is “screwed” deep into the earth in stable soil. This way, it will be able to support the weight of your home. As time passes, the pier can prevent any additional sinking or vertical movement of the home.

Push Piers

These piers are also made from steel and can be installed with a hydraulic device that pushes them into the earth. From here, they will be able to take on the weight of your home by transferring it over from the weakened foundation. No major excavation is required for installation.

Bowed Foundation Walls

Bowing basement walls are typically a result of hydrostatic pressure in the soil surrounding your home. This hydrostatic pressure is the result of an abundant amount of moisture being in the soil around your home. The soil swells, and the pressure it exerts on your foundation walls is known as hydrostatic pressure. To take care of this kind of structural problem, Awe can install wall anchors from SafeBasements™. Their wall anchors are made from strong, tough materials which will be able to withstand the demanding soil conditions around your home. They will be installed with a wall plate inside your home, and a steel rod will connect the wall anchor to the plate. Over time, the rod can be tightened to increase the pressure on your bowed wall, and it will help to straighten the wall back to where it needs to be.
